You may have heard of the term 'frozen shoulder'. This can become an extremely painful, debilitating condition which may develop after a fall on the shoulder, or something as simple as banging the shoulder when walking through a doorway. It can commonly be linked to stiffness or spondylosis in the neck. The symptoms of a frozen shoulder are often a constant ache in the upper arm (it may not be in the shoulder joint itself), an inability to lie on that shoulder in bed, and a loss of movement. This can vary from mild loss of movement to a very severe limitation, where simple everyday tasks such as dressing or combing hair can be difficult to perform.
Physiotherapy treatment can be vital in speeding up the recovery of movement in a frozen shoulder. If left untreated it can worsen and may take up to two years to resolve. We can help you regain vital function of the shoulder and also treat the pain. We can also explain exactly what your shoulder problem is so that you can understand the treatment plan.
Of course, there are many other shoulder complaints. Many people suffer from an inflammation of one of the tendons of the shoulder, perhaps after a sporting injury. Tendons attach muscle to bone and are involved in movement and the symptoms of tendonitis can often be felt as a sudden sharp pain on one particular movement of the arm. Normally within seconds of stopping that movement the pain disappears and other movements of the shoulder can be pain free.
We would diagnose the site of the injury involved and with the correct treatment you should begin to respond quickly and experience relief of your pain.
